The Weight Topics page enables participants to rate the relative importance of Topics, ranging from “very important” to “unimportant”. This offers an additional way for participants to express preferences beyond voting on single (uncategorized) options. This is especially valuable because it permits participants to demonstrate their support level for broader issues without being constrained by their support for specific options within those issues. For instance, in a citizen budgeting scenario, you might strongly support the general budget Topic "Police Services" while not endorsing all the individual components within it. Thus, you can indicate strong backing for the overall "Police Services" program and display lower levels of support for its individual budgeting items.
The default weight of relative importance for each Topic is 50%. This cannot be changed on this page but can be done at the “Option Topics” configuration page located in the “Voting” drop-down menu on the LHS.
