The Topic Voting page is for creating a specific kind of voting page that enables participants to vote on every Option in a Topic. On this page you can customize the background content, which gives an overview of the options being voted on, as well as customize the sidebars and comments settings.
Note that the actual associated Options cannot be customized on this page.
If you haven't yet created a Topic and a set of Options for your Topic Voting page, follow these simple 3 steps:
Step 1 - Create Option Topic:
Option Topics can be created by navigating to the Option Topics tab, under the "Voting" drop-down menu. Here you can group your options together under a unifying concept (i.e. the Topic).
Step 2 - Create Options:
Navigate to the Options tab which can be found under the "Voting" drop-down menu. This page allows you to create your own custom voting Options.
An Option is a characteristic or descriptor of a potential future state. Options can be framed at any level of abstraction. Examples of options include:
- Expenditures in a budgeting process
- Types of facilities in a community center
- Principles for a strategic plan
- Sections of a policy document
- Projects for implementation
Step 3 - Create a Voting Page:
Once you have completed steps 1 and 2, you can now create and customize your Voting Page which will be displayed in the web browser. On this page, you can edit different sections of the Voting Page, more on this below.
Follow this path to create a Topic Voting Page:
Pages >Create Select the page type “Topic Voting” and click Next at the bottom of the page.
Topic Voting Page Sections
Center Content, Sidebars, Options Display Order, and Comments:
Center Content
In the Center Content section, you can choose which Option Topic you would like to use for this Topic Voting page by clicking on the drop-down menu for Topic (this cannot be left black). Choosing a particular Option Topic will automatically display the group of Options associated with the Option Topic.
The default Title and URL for this page are the Option Topic title and the Option Topic identifier respectively, but both of these are customizable.
This section can have up to 2 content blocks, one near the top of the page and the other at the bottom of the page. You can also add images of your preference in the content blocks.
In between the content block, voting widgets for all Options associated with a given Topic will be available for display on the browser once you have completed configuring this page. There are several different voting widgets you can configure under the section Likert Voting Style:
- Classic Likert - One Button for each rating level
- Condensed Likert - One button with a pop-up that displays each rating level
- Yes / No (Pick One) - Participants select 'Yes' for an item. Once selected, all others are set to 'No'
- Yes / No (Pick Many) - Participants select 'Yes' or 'No' for each item
Sidebars
In the Sidebars section, you can choose to include info panels for participants to receive additional instructions as well as a voting summary. After filling out the information you would like participants to see, make sure you click the Use This Sidebar box to render the sidebar effectively.
Options Display Order
In the Order Display Order section, you can set the order of the Options that will be displayed on your Topic Voting Page.
Comments
In the Comments section, you can choose to include a comments box either on the right-hand side of the page or on the bottom of the page. We have set up default titles for your comment boxes, but these can be customized. Comments boxes can also be included next to each one of the Options on this page, and titles can be customized here as well.
Customize Look and Feel of Voting Page Using CSS
Customize the design of your Voting Page by adding CSS code in the ‘Custom CSS’ area.
You can find the right CSS code for your customizations in our CSS Reference Doc.
Simply 'copy' the relevant CSS code from the document and 'paste' it in the 'Custom CSS' area, which you can find here: Appearance > Look and Feel > Settings > Custom CSS
